  • Teazle

Teazle is a 26yo 13HH Welsh section B strawberry roan. We purchased Teazle when he was 11 yo for my daughter, Zoe, then 9 years old. Teazle is a highly intelligent, forward-going family pony, very willing, kind and conscientious to his rider. Teazle has always had a mischievous glint in his eye and a real character. Zoe and Teazle were active pony club members enjoying camp and numerous shows where Teazles speed and agility against the clock secured many wins.
We have always had Teazle shod by Chapel Forge Farriers who kept his feet tip-top for several years but sadly, at 18, Teazle developed Cushings and laminitis. When the laminitis got the better of Teazle and his pedal bone began to rotate Gary Pickford stepped-in to shoe him personally, exploring several methods of shoeing. With Garys help and expertise, we have ensured that Teazle is as comfortable as possible and preventing any further deterioration.
For the past four years Teazles feet can only tolerate glue-on shoes, Sigafoos, and Gary cuts his feet back at a comfortable angle to take the weight off the pedal bones. Garys patience and commitment to the cause have meant that Teazle has benefitted greatly from this type of remedial shoeing. It is wonderful to see Teazle so comfortable and enjoying his retirement and we cant thank Gary enough.

  • Harry!

Harry… Vet referral to a 30 year old leisure horse. Harry is a retired leisure horse with severe dorsal wall cracks to all 4 feet. Due to very overgrown and neglected feet a very heavy four point trim was applied to all four feet. The dorsal wall cracks were debrided and then a manuka honey barrier was applied to the sensitive laminae, before equilox and kevla dorsal wall patches were applied.
Eight weeks later Harry was shod in front with rocker toe four point shoes. Due to the hard and rough ground in the paddock most of the dorsal wall cracks have grown down from the coronary band and have been re-patched.
The client is thrilled with how the feet look and the way Harry is now able to happily canter around the field, pain free!!
Another success for Chapel Forge and very satisfying to see a horse out of pain and happy clients!
